Translation: The results of the Mercury in the fifth house.
मधुरभाषी बुद्धिमान्॥ ३८॥
भावाधिपे पापयुते बलहीने पुत्रनाशः॥ ३९॥
अपुत्र दत्तपुत्रप्राप्तिः पापकर्मी मंत्रवादी॥ ४०॥

bhāvādhipe lord of the house; pāpayute conjoined malefic; balahīne destitude of strength, weak; putranāśa loss or death of child;
aputra sonless; data given, granted, extended; putra a child, son; prāptiḥ obtaining, arrival at, gain; pāpakarmī wrong doing, wicked, a sinner; maṁtra mantra, prayer; vādī speaking, learned, wise.
Translation: If Mercury is in the fifth house, the native’s maternal uncle will be exposed to dangers. He will enjoy happiness from maternal side, will have difficulty in having children, will be highly intelligent (will have brain power), soft-spoken and wise.
If lord of the fifth house is weak or conjoined malefic planet there will be loss of children. Having no children he will obtain child by adoption. He will be sinful and will practice (recite) mantras.

jānavān birth, origin, birth place; sukhī one who loves pleasure;
śoḍaśavarṣe 16th year; dravya objects, wealth; apahāra stealing, taking away, spending another person’s property; rūpeṇa form, nature, character, image; aneka not one, much, many; vāhanavān vehicle, conveyance;
bhāvādhipe lord of the house; balayute strong, endowed with strength; āndolikā a swing-cot, palanquin; prāpti obtaining, reaching, arrival;
rāhuketuśaniyute conjoined Rahu, Ketu or Saturn; vāhana vehicle, conveyance; ariṣṭavān unhurt, uninjured;

Translation: If Mercury is in the fourth house, the native will have very active hands, he will be patient, will have broad eyes and happiness from parents. He will be happy at his place of birth.
In his 16th year he will acquire wealth by dishonest means (possibly stealing) and will acquire many types of conveyances. If lord of the fourth house is strong person will have palanquin in his conveyances.
If Mercury is conjoined Rahu, Ketu or Saturn in the fourth house, person will experience vehicle related accident but will remain unhurt. He will have no land, will have hostile relation with his family and relations and will be deceitful.

bhāvādhipe lord of the house; balayute strong, endowed with strength; dīrghayuḥ long lived; dhairyavān calm, patience;
bhāvādhipe lord of the house; bhrātṛ brother; pīḍā suffering, injury, harm; bhītimān fearing, alarmed;

Translation: If Mercury is in the third house the native will have a good number of brothers (or sisters) and will be very happy. In his 15th year he will get a child and will become owner of lands.
Mercury in third house will make person wealthy. He will be of high morals and full of good qualities.
If the lord of third house is strong the native will be long lived and tolerant (will have patience). If the lord of third house is weak, native’s brother will suffer and the native will be timid. If the lord of the third is strong, brothers will be long lived.

Translation: If Mercury is in the second house person will have a good number of children, he will be talkative, well versed in Vedic shastras, determined, accomplished, wealthy, virtuous and full of good qualities.
In his 15th year he will accomplish high academic and enormous financial gains.
If Mercury is conjoined malefic or is in a malefic sign or debilitated (in Pisces) person will remain uneducated. He will be cruel and will suffer from windy troubles (rheumatism).
If Mercury is conjoined benefic or is aspected by planetary aspect from benefic, person will be knowledgeable. If Mercury is conjoined or aspected by Jupiter the native will be proficient in the Ganita shastra (mathematics and astronomy) and will be authority on this subject.

atha now; tanva part of the body; adi and other; dvādaśabhāva twelve bhavas or houses; sthita standing, being placed in; budha the Mercury; phala fruit, result; māha great; tatrādau therefore, therein; lagne Lagna or ascendant; budhaphalam the results of the Mercury.
Translation: Now begins the twelve houses beginning from the Lagna and the placement of the Mercury therein. Therefore we can begin with the results of the Mercury in the ascendant.
